Upgraded to 52.0 it's become very slow. Can I revert, or is there a fix?

When I say slow, I mean there's sometimes a delay in keystrokes appearing while typing a message than can amount to several words. Also, I frequently get 'Not responding' in the header in which case there's nothing I can do but pause and wait. To be fair, this last began several revisions ago but recently has gotten pretty bad because it happens frequently. However, the pausing whilst composing is new with 52.0 and is terrible to deal with. Also, I can select new message and then there's a delay in the new window appearing. Thinking my touchpad didn't respond I may click new message again and actually begin composing when a new window appears mid-stroke and I realize it's opened two new-message windows. Frankly, it's like I am operating with a really slow COU, or a hard disk that is very fragmented (it's not and it's an SSD). Anyway, I mention this in hopes of giving a sense of what I mean by slow to live with. BTW, my file system is extensive with many, many directories and levels and is quite well organized. For example, Sent directory is by year going back more than a decade. Similarly, the inbox is organized by recipient/organization, and may depending on the customer be several levels deep.

Finally, this is an old Windows machine, with Server 2003 installed, and is equipped with an SSD drive but until this latest update it's been perfectly serviceable. In closing, Thunderbird is my goto tool for communication. I very much hope a fix to this. Alternatively, can I revert to earlier version? Last thing, many (many, many, many) thanks for your ongoing effort! -- John 407-302-3361

When performance issues appear after an update, one common cause is incompatibility between an existing security program and the new TB. Disabling AV actions on email folders, if it's in place, is often a quick fix, and besides it's not recommended for normal usage.

Here is a list of other factors that is well worth going through.
