After an update, I now get pop up notifications every time I receive an email. How do I stop this?

I looked online and there are a few answers, but they're old and don't seem to reflect the interface that I have. I have a mac.

Care to explain what kind of 'pop up notifications'? And perhaps you can post a screenshot? https://support.mozilla.org/kb/how-do-i-create-screenshot-my-problem

Hi, Screenshot attached... basically a little pop up box on the top right and a loud ding whenever i receive mail.

Thanks!

Most people would want to see the new mail alert, but you can disable it if that's what you want. See https://support.mozilla.org/kb/how-customize-new-mail-sound

So, this does not address my issue of the pop up. Further, it doesn't actually help me with the annoying sound either.

When I go into preferences and general... I get the message (attached).

Then when I go to preferences (as the attached mssg suggests), I have no notification pane.

I figured it out... its not a thunderbird issue, its a mac issue. Darn it, I should have just asked my wife right at the beginning and saved myself a day of headaches.
