today a closed my firefox (53.0.2 - 32bit) and tried opening it again. This is a known issue with Windows (10), that if you close and try to open again a program in a quick sequence, the stupid OS can't handle the information and won't open the program. Usually you get a stupid message on "the process is still running" and after shutting the process everything goes back to normal. Well, not this time. Firefox just stopped altogether and won't start even after restarting the OS. Uninstalled Firefox and re-installed it - same fucking problem. Uninstalled, cleared registry entries - not working. Uninstalled, reinstalled, eliminated everything remotely related to Firefox. Nothing will make it work properly. waited 10 min. for it to open, when it finally did, clicked the "refresh" option - offered by firefox, after detecting my many uninstall-reinstall actions. Crashed, It simply looks like I'm trying to run firefox on my old xt-90. Btw, in safe-mode windows it works fine, so I guess it has to do with "working along" some other processes/apps in windows 10. But no, I'm not reinstalling my OS for a browser problem, since even Edge is now better than firefox (OMFG!) and does not crash nor feels like an old lady trying to walk around with her walking stick. Does anyone here has/had this kind of problem? Why the hell can't firefox recover itself from a simply crash? Why won't it fix itself in windows safe mode? Why the fucking hell does it create so much stupid information inside my OS that even after uninstalling, it keeps making the same stupid associations, which keeps it from working?

hi, we are currently aware of a bitdefender signature update that's causing some havoc for firefox users - are you using bitdefender security products on your system by chance? https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/69zsnj/help_super_laggy_firefox_browser_08052017/dhbles0/

Yes, this seems to do the trick. Just disabled the active protection on bitdefender and firefox started normally. I'll run more tests and see if it's permanent, and post my results here.

thank you! please also get in contact with bitdefender's support about your findings then, since the fix will likely need to come from them...
