When I open Firefox it opens on Yahoo instead of my gmail account. Prior to this, I was on ebay, and I noticed that my address book was in the window(!) which seemed suspicious. I exited the internet. When I turned it back on, clicking on Mozilla Firefox, it went to Yahoo, not Google gmail. All my tabs are gone. What can I do---have I been hacked? what do I do? I hope somebody can help me. masako

Hello there. If you do not have the same home page as before then try to set Gmail as home page in case you accidentally changed the setting. How to set the home page

If Firefox won't save these settings then chances are that you have accidentally installed adware or an add-on that changes these settings.

  1. To test if you have an add-on installed that changes your homepage, try booting in safe mode. It will disable all add-ons. If you can set the home page now, then try disabling one add-on after the other to find out wich one is causing your trouble.
  2. Try these troubleshooting tips.
  3. Check all your installed programs. Sometimes a program installs unwanted software during the installation process. If you can find one you don't want, uninstall it.
  4. Use a malware scanner of your choice to scan your Mac for adware.

Try these steps and report back if anything helped.

Firefox uses sessionstore.js in the profile folder to store session data. Sessionstore.js is only present when Firefox is closed. The sessionstore.js file is created from recovery.js when you close Firefox and is removed and copied to previous.js when you start Firefox to make is possible to restore the session at any time.

Backup the session files in the sessionstore-backups folder in the Firefox Profile Folder to make sure not to lose possible important session data. Do NOT close Firefox when Firefox is already running.

You will normally find these files in the sessionstore-backups folder:

previous.js (cleanBackup: copy of sessionstore.js from previous session that was loaded successfully)
recovery.js (latest version of the sessionstore written during runtime)
recovery.bak (previous version of the sessionstore written during runtime)
upgrade.js-<build_id> (backup created during an upgrade of Firefox)

You can copy a file from the sessionstore-backups folder to the main profile and rename the file to sessionstore.js to replace the current file (make a backup copy of the current sessionstore.js).
