About "Be Nice" .. not so nice below, BUT I AM SIMPLY FED UP WITH FIREFOX SCREWUPS ... YES, SWITCHING TO GOOGLE CHROME, BUT I NEED THIS FIXED TO GET MY DATA BACK AND EXPORT :

Once again ... Firefox has destroyed my bookmarks, add-ons etc. when I "updated" Firefox ... Macbook Pro OS X

in the past, I have cumulatively taken hours to fix this -- on 4-5 occasions of the SAME PROBLEM (read: unfixed by Mozilla/Firefox)

a) why cant Firefox get their stuff together? .. WHY DOESN'T MOZILLA/FIREFOX FIX THIS !!!!

b) do they think my time is free? how can they, getting paid for their software development, expect me to lose money away from my business every time I "upgrade" ... so presumptious, so offensive, so oblivious to its "clients"

c) I don't know of any ... any ... any .... any software developer that requires a user to fix it's software -- again sometimes taking hours, including trying to find Help like this Mozillla user "support" input -- after an "upgrade" ... simply unbelieveable, simply UNACCEPTABLE ... TO YOU FIREFOX PEOPLE OR ITS REPS ... WILL YOU PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE AND GET WITH THE 21ST CENTURY? ....

d) WHERE IS THE “SUPPORT"? .. where is the IN PERSON support that is going to fix my computer after screwing up my long input data gathering with their so-called "upgrade" ???? Two things are for sure: 1) it's gonna get fixed and 2) I'm certainly not going to spend any more of my own time and lose money from my business to fix Firefox's programming screwups. DON’T KNOW OF ANY … ANY … ANY … ANY company that does not have IN-PERSON SUPPORT … software and its functions are complex .. they need to be supported through interpersonal interaction … every other company in the world knows this … why not Mozilla???? I just don’t get it.

e) For past and present, even this "help" note, where do I invoice Mozilla for my time lost? ... where headquarters? .. accounts payable?/ I assume one of the non-Mozilla, non-person reps knows the answer to this ... surely they don't expect me to lose money by way of their "upgraded" product.

f) As one of you reps sugggested last time this happened : "well you chose Firefox, ... if u don't like problems, go use another browser" ... gee, that's good customer support ... our product sucks so use another -- geez.

g) Indeed I now intend to use another, but I will first be satisfied by Mozilla/Firefox's restoration of my computer, cumulative time lost and literal restoration of data exactly as was before the "update", and the payment by Mozilla for all my time in trying to remediate this and if any data lost, the historical time used to cumulate and enter such data.

If anyone out there in the GREAT MOZILLA/FIREFOX ABYSS knows anything about their products and their continuing failures, please respond to my questions above.

I expect someone at Mozilla or a rep thereof to, for once, BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR FAULTY PRODUCTS AND CUMULATIVE STRESS BURDEN AND MONEY LOST BY CUSTOMERS.

I AM LOSING MONEY AS I SPEAK, AS I DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO MY BOOKMARKS WHICH I NEED AT-THE-READY WHEN WORKING ... SO … SOMEBODY, SOMEWHERE, FIX THIS NOW!! _________ Again, not so nice, but perhaps a reader can understand my ongoing frustrations. NOTHING PERSONAL TO ANY INDIVIDUAL PERSON. I AM ADDRESSING ORGANIZATIONAL ISSUES.

There seem to be too many multiple technical issues. I am agreeing with you,not pointing out the obvious necessarily.Start out with what you know.Mozilla has lost your data. It's probably in the abyss of lost data as far as Mozilla is concerned. Apple(your MAC OS) should be more helpful. They are profit driven and should provide better assistance. i have used IE,Chrome,&Firefox. They all have bugs when it comes to add ons, extensions and compatibilty with your installed apps. Chrome for instance only has a black screen when I use my speech recognition program. But maybe that is the best for your future use.

I do remember that either my Chrome or Firefox had put some "old data" shortcuts on my desktop at one time. It had to do with keeping settings after I uninstalled and reinstalled. You might want to check your program or downloads for Firefox files. It might even be in Documents but usually it would be an unexecutable file with just text.

Mozilla is a not for profit compony. There is no charge for any of their programs.

These can't get your data back, but will help in the future.

These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox

FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backups of files that you choose.

This is the official Mozilla Firefox support. Any other is a fake.

Hi,

The people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other Firefox users volunteering their time (like me), not Mozilla employees or Firefox developers.

If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, you can go to the Firefox Help menu and select Submit Feedback... or use this link. Your feedback gets collected at http://input.mozilla.org/, where a team of people read it and gather data about the most common issues.

The fact that Mozilla is a non-profit is not an excuse for incompetence.

There are many thousands of non-profits that are extremely productive in providing a strong "return on mission" with both benefactors and beneficiaries of the mission rewarded amply.

If Mozilla is somehow restrained in its effectiveness directly because of its non-profit status, IT SHOULD NOT TRY TO COMPETE IN THE MARKETPLACE AND DISAPPOINT USERS LIKE ME ... SO I GOT BURNED AND NOW I'LL SWITCH. As far as I'm concerned the Mozilla organization has a poor business model --- affirming the popular concept that YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

I would rather pay a subscription fee for a quality, reliable product than waste my valuable time on fixing the collateral damage of "upgrades", losing time, money and competitiveness in my own business while cleaning up Mozilla's mess, and all with NO DIRECT HELP OR ACCOUNTABILITY FROM MOZILLA..

I just don't get it. Mozilla, you've destroyed my data and cost me major bucks ... you should be ashamed of yourselves. Period.

Hi Grateful_Dad, I gave you some suggestions when you ran into trouble seven months ago, and twenty-one months ago and did not find you very receptive to my suggestions. As a reminder:

By now, you know what the Refresh feature does and what this site has to offer in the way of helping you undo what you did.

If you do not like online community support, I suggest seeking support from a source closer to you.

Also most companies that provide one on one support by chat, phone, or email is usually for paid for products.

A lot of the settings and data is kept on your own computer. Mozilla Firefox does offer a Firefox Sync service, but that is intended to enable you to Sync between your own multiple devices.

There is no Mozilla abbys of lost data.

In the course of using any web browser, websites including search sites will likely build up data on you.

If you have your own problem with Firefox

I'm not familiar with Mac, but does it have an automatic or manual system backup that you could use to roll back?

For future reference: If you have a lot of important bookmarks, it's worth backing them up manually every so often, it's very easy, and only takes a minute: Open bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import and Backup > Backup. Or, Export Bookmarks to HTML, and save them to somewhere convenient on your computer. Note that Backup will overwrite any existing bookmarks when you restore them.

For extra safety, I'd suggest making both a Backup - which creates a JSON file, and an HTML file, which in case of catastrophic computer failure, should also be copied to an external drive - such as a flash drive.

If you need to backup data other than bookmarks, please see Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.
