I have used adblockplus for years. It always worked great but now I don't know. For the last month or so I have been geting ads I never got before. I never got ads on a fbook site I visit but now it does. I also notice this on other webpages. I am getting those obnoxious things that are on the right side of the page and they change regularly. These are the kind of things that make it so I cannot read text because they are so distracting. Is this a problem others are seeing and how do I get back my ad blocking?

A security update just came out; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version 50.0.2

You may have ad / mal-ware. Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

I do have the latest version, I get those prompts as soon as they come out. I haven't seen any signs of malware. I do regular scans also. Other than the MS one those are two that I use. I may be somewhat overreacting. I had noticed ads for a month or two that never were in a facebook page I visit, but maybe that is allowed by the page. But when I was on a different website and got some garbage that made it hard to focus on the text I was questioning. I don't think I have really had a lot of other problems otherwise. Thanks for the help.

Hi   ! You may find this very enlightning:
https://www.quora.com/Why-does-adblock-no-longer-work-as-of-April-2016
Maybe you'd consider this add-on :
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/

I think I had seen that article. I think it is mostly applicable to adblock when I do have adblockplus. It could be some of these ads are being allowed and I may have to go another direction at some point if I do have more problems (see my reply to FredMcD here). Nothing good lasts forever. I am already using something to combat sites that blank me out, an anti ad block blocker. I will check into your adblock idea also. Thanks for the help.

You need to contact the add-on's support site for a solution and reason for the change. If you do find an answer feel free to post a link to that in this thread.

You probably are aware there is a continual cat and mouse war between ads, ad-blockers, and websites using anti adblocking methods because the need|want the revenue generated by ads.
