twice using tb on win 10 - my desktop icons up - why?

more options

twice in the last 60 days, using thunderbird on my win 10 laptop, suddenly the desktop icons become huge. the second time, two days ago, while typing a response to someone, thunderbird went into a mode where each line was numbered when I hit enter to go to a new line. Not sure why it started using bullets.

as regards my desktop icons, the only thing I was able to do to fix the problem was go into safe mode, clear the temp folder and run system restore.

I have not had this issue on win vista. The win 10 machine is running in 64 bit mode. My other win 10 laptop, running in 32 bit mode, has not shown either of the issues noted above.

Chosen solution

It is possible that the blown up icons were a side affect of that hidden css code you mentioned. Which might explain why it happened while replying to a message in thunderbird.

I admit I hadn't thought of hidden css code mainly because I never use MS Word for anything.

As for the screen resolution, I tried several different screen resolutions and none of them restored the icons. System restore, from safe mode, however, did. Of course I cleared the system TEMP folder and recycle bins before the restore process.

Thanks for the response.

If you alter the screen resolution then larger icons can be achieved. Thunderbird has no means of effecting the Windows OS screen resolution. Your operating systen was doing this for some unknown reason.

To get bullets without clicking on the Formatting Bar 'numbered bullet' icon would be by holding down 'Alt' key and pressing O then L then M. It is possible to accidentally depress eg: Alt key whilst typing 'olm' But I'm sure you would noticed the Menu Bar 'Format' drop down occuring.

It is also possible to copy paste text from another source eg: MS Word which may include hidden css code, which could effect what you type. I've received emails where the sender used MS Word to create the email and it caused all kinds of issues when I tried to 'Reply' as the hidden included css coding was effecting what I was writing. This was clearly visible when I viewed the Message source code.

As you were typing a response to someone, you could have a look at the source code to see if it has a load of hidden css code in it.
