Hi there,

Nothing happens when pressing the archive button. no feedback, no fault message, no archiving. The existing archives are perfectly accessible. settings haven't changed. i am using the standard local archives (a folder for each year. I am using version 45.2.0

Thanks in advance,

jan Vollaers.

Delete the 2016.msf file within your 'Archives' folder. Again, there should be no folder '2016', but a file '2016' in the file system.

In Thunderbird you can then try to manually create a folder '2016' within the 'Archives' folder. This should trigger the creation of the file '2016' in the file system.

Can you then manually move messages to Archives/2016?

i am sorry, but I do not get it. I attached 3 screenshots of the local folder. I do not know where to manually put the folder. If you want i can archive a 2016 mail and then take new screenshots. thanks for your patience.

In Thunderbird: underneath 'Local Folders' right-click 'Archives' - New Subfolder

@Christ1 What would happened if he renamed the entire archive to archive_old? Wouldn't that create a new archive with 2016 as first year?

I don't know. Something odd is going on there which I don't really understand. And I'm running out of ideas.

What's odd is that there are no archive (file) and no archive msf but a archive (dir) and the correct archive.sbd (dir) in the Local Folders.

I think there was a similar q almost a year ago.

Before you do anything make a safety-copy of Local Folders (and all its subs). 10+ GB What is postvak.in? Do you use it, for what?

The archive (dir) should be empty so move the postvak.in somewhere and delete archive (dir). Create archive.txt an empty textfile and delete the .txt extension.

Start TB The archive (dir) should not be created. The archive.msf should.

My mistake, The (text) file you created should be named archives just as the archives.sbd (dir) Rename it

Hi There. sorry for the late reply. I have tried the above but it doesn't work. After that i have removed everything in the local file folder, restarted TB an tried to archive. No way. Here is a screenshot of the folders and files made when TB started again.

Summary: The same problem on three computers. I can safely move all 2016 mails to the 2015 local folder. That works fine. Only 2016 does not work.

Thanks so far for all the help, but it remains a mystery

It is "solved". The used profile was more than 28GB in size. Over the years a lot of things that went wrong were in there. Like dragging files from o=ne folder to another. But also backups when changing from provider. Creating a new profile wasn't enough. Only a complete reinstall helped. It was easy to make all the old mailboxes visible afterwards and clean them up. Because the old profile had been dragged around form pc to pc they all had the problem and it looked like a bug. thanks for your help.

Good. Can you then mark your previous answer as the 'Solution' for this thread? Thank you.
