Close and re-open - why are all my tabs gone occasionally?

I tend to leave a lot of tabs open. This problem happens only every 2 months approximately. A great nuisance. Tonight it happened and it was a "clean" shutdown. Only one instance of FF open, and I gave it all the time it wanted to shut down. The only thing unusual was I also had Chrome open.
