since get mail plus will no longer work with firefox is it possible to put thunderbird onto the toolbar?

I've looked up the addon, and I'm wondering what it offers that you don't already have via a button on the desktop's taskbar, which is available to you from ALL programs, not just Firefox.
since firefox will no longer allow me to use getmail to view my email program messages I wanted to replace it with thunderbird, i.e. an addon link to thunderbird from firefox's toolbar

None. I have become so accustomed to accessing my mail via the toolbar buttons, that I have completely forgotten about the task bar. Thanks for the reminder
