Did they say it's a general problem with Firefox, or more likely a settings problem? If they have a general problem with Firefox, I might not beat my fingers against the keyboard with less and less likely suggestions...

Do you have Firefox set to block redirects? You can check here:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options

In the left column, click Advanced. On the right side, with the "General" mini-tab active, uncheck the box for "Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page" if it is checked.

One other thing you could try while you wait for any authoritative explanation is to use a fresh Firefox profile.

New Profile Test

This takes about 3 minutes, plus the time to test the site.

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

Click the Create a New Profile button, then click Next. Assign a name like Aug2016, ignore the option to relocate the profile folder, and click the Finish button.

After creating the profile, scroll down to it and click the Set as default profile button below that profile, then scroll back up and click the Restart normally button.

Firefox should exit and then start up using the new profile, which will just look brand new.

Does your webmail page work any better in the new profile?

When you are done with the experiment, open the about:profiles page again, click the Set as default profile button for your normal profile, then click the Restart normally button to get back to it.

Hi jcandy, what happens when you try to access your mail: do you get a specific error message? Does the problem start before or after you log in?

If you are using an old bookmark, sometimes the redirects fail. Try getting to the site through the provider's main page and see whether that works any better. Is this the new site or the old site: https://email.telstra.com/

If you are using a private browsing window, do you see the "shield" icon toward the left end of the address bar? This article has more information about tracking protection which can break some sites: What happened to Tracking Protection?.

General suggestions:

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

See: How to clear the Firefox cache

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes. If you do not see the number going down on the page, you can reload it using Ctrl+r to check progress.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • click the padlock or "i" icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information, and finally the "View Cookies" button

In the dialog that opens, the current site should be pre-filled in the search box at the top of the dialog so you can remove that site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

After I have logged in I get three grey dots which hang and don't alter. On other browsers the move and then the webmail loads I am not using private browsing nor is it an old bookmark. I use both the address suggested and the direct load from the Bigpond site. That can lead to the new site but I still get the same result. All the general suggestions have been tried without success and the Telstra company have tried things from their end with success for the other browsers but not Firefox. Its a pity as at the moment I might have to stop using Firefox which I have found secure and good and used for a number of years.
