Is the server down at the moment? I can't receive or send emails

I have Thunderbird on my MAC. Every time I send a message its says Message cannot be sent because the connection to outgoing server (SMTP) has timed out. All my settings are correct and I haven't changed anything

What server would that be? Thunderbird is client software running on your computer. Email providers have servers. You could contact your provider.
