System requirements: Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Windows OS
- 1.5GHz or faster processor
- Windows Server 2008 R2 (32 bit and 64 bit), 2012 (64 bit), or 2012 R2 (64 bit); Windows 7 (32 bit and 64 bit); Windows 8 (32 bit and 64 bit); Windows 10
- 1GB of RAM
- 380MB of available hard-disk space
- 1024x768 screen resolution
- Internet Explorer 8, 9, or 10, 11; Firefox Extended Support Release
Looks like WinXP and Vista are not supported any longer for Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.
I don't know what external program to recommend for viewing PDF files; I use the PDF viewer that is built into Firefox, which works fine for me.

Edit: had to add not - sorry about that - a "senior moment" and not proof reading carefully enough to get my thoughts across

Hi, have a look at this - View PDF files in Firefox or choose another viewer.
There are a couple of PDF reader plugins suggested near the bottom of the article, if you don't want to use the Firefox viewer.
