Unlike the other question on here, I do not lose any of the extensions or associated settings when this happens, the only thing affected is the appearance of the list itself. I have verified that this happens every time I boot Firefox after a PC restart. I followed the advice given on another questions to delete extensions.json and entensions.ini (the only ones present in my profile folder), unfortunately this only temporarily resolves the problem until it repeats. It started happening a few days after added Greasemonkey, I tried disabling it to see if that would fix it, but no luck! Thanks for reading.

I recently ran a scan for Adware with a specific scanner, and after removing it my problem seems to be fixed.

Your More System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in your Profile folder. Are you purposely using that user.js file? Or could some piece of malware put that in your Profile folder?

Help > Troubleshooting Information Profile Folder > Show Folder

with Firefox closed Either rename that user.js file to something like user.js.old to de-activate that file when you start Firefox or just delete that file altogether if you didn't create yourself for a specific reason.

user.js is an optional file, not part of the Firefox installation.

Thanks for the reply.

The user.js file is actually one of the leftover Greasemonkey scripts, I removed it, but the situation remains the same.

There is software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

Thank you for your time,

1 - The only program I use with similar functions to the program mentioned is AVG PC TuneUp, I set it to automatically delete the cache, and download history and also to optimize databases every 10 days.

2 - I perused both links provided, they seem to only troubleshoot unsaved options, which I have no problem with, not dissapearing extensions. Unless preferences englobes more that just options.

There are prefs that deal with extensions as you can see if you open the about:config page and search for extensions.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

Another possibility is a problem with files in the profile folder that store the extensions registry.

Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.json, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

New files will be created when required.

See "Corrupt extension files":

If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in ""3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions" then check if there is a compatibility update available.

  • click the cogwheel button (left of the Search bar) on the about:addons page to "Check for Updates"

If this didn't help then delete add-ons.json and possibly prefs.js in case there is a problem with preferences.

Will doing this step, "If this didn't help then delete add-ons.json and possibly prefs.js in case there is a problem with preferences." alter any settings or delete any add-ons ? If so, I will make a note of my current setup.

The add-ons.json file stores information about installed extensions. Some of this information do you see if you click a More button of this extension.

I tried all the solutions above and the problem got worse, now I am forced to reinstall my extensions at seemingly random intervals. I need further assistance!
