My close/minimize/expand buttons are on top of my home and back buttons; new tab and recycle tab buttons are duplicated.

The superimposition of the navigation buttons and window buttons (circled in red on my screenshot) happened a few updates ago, but the duplication of the add/recycle tab buttons (purple), with the associated wide stretch of useless gray header, just happened with the last update (or the one just before that). I'm already on a laptop, so I can't afford to lose too much more window real estate! Any suggestions on how I could get some sanity back? (The first problem causes problems all the time when I resize my window rather than navigating back a page -- not fun!)

Thanks for any tips, acm

Are you in permanent Private Browsing mode (Always use Private Browsing mode; Never Remember History)?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
