Why did Facebook fail 5-17-16 under Firefox 12 and Windows XP and can it be fixed?
Facebook worked in the morning and stopped working in the evening. I could no longer post and messaging became difficult. I can post using Opera, but Opera makes my computer lock up. My desktop is old and I have concerns about upgrading to later version of Firefox due to space and/or other considerations. I am looking for best solution to make Facebook work under Windows XP and a version of Firefox not much larger in size than Firefox 12, and not needing additional patches.

It's hard for us to support older versions of Firefox, especially versions that are a few years old now. Since Firefox 12 has known security vulnerabilities, it is highly recommended to update. As for Facebook, their endless scrolling and autoplay videos challenge even new systems...
If you want to test out the latest Firefox version without replacing your current installation, you can use the unofficial Portable package, which deposits Firefox in a folder that is separate from your current settings:
