The window (popup) when uploading a file previously contained the location bar. I could directly insert a path. After an upgrade to FF 46 this has gone and replaces with some ugly new thing. I see that there is a favorite-category for this but this is not fast enough. I always have to select it.

How can I revert to the old behavior/file-selection-window?

Hi spaceone.

On which site are you experiencing this issues? Firefox tends to use system file picker where possible, if the site does not decide to use its own (e.g. JavaScript created).

Hello Michal,

this happens on every site. For example the upload-button when attaching a patch in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/. Or even here in this page.

Hi spaceone.

I have been reminded that Firefox 46 came with GTK3 support, so it might be probably connected. Firefox uses system file picker (color picker and all components) available in the operating system, also to make the experience more platform native. What I think have happened is that your distro is not consistent how the components look with interaction with GTK2 and GTK3. Is that something which is possible to adjust on the side of your disto?

I tried "gsettings set org.gtk.Settings.FileChooser location-mode filename-entry" which doesn't help either. Is one able to revert the GTK2→3 change?

A workaround is to set ui.allow_platform_file_picker to false in about:config. This looks very ugly but restores better behavior.
