Unable to backup or export bookmarks

I can't seem to export or backup bookmarks, when I select either of the two services it looks like it goes through but nothing appears in that location. I tried various locations (root of C: drive, location of the automatic json backup files - C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\g866mbel.default-1443690863204\bookmarkbackups, Documents, etc.) but nothing happens. Is there anything I can do without refreshing Firefox at this stage? I don't have any issues bookmarking web pages.
