Menu bar and URL font very light when using Firefox over MS remote desktop

When I connect to a remote PC (running Win 8.1) by Microsoft Remote Desktop, the Firefox URL font and menu bar are extremely light colored--basically unreadable as shown in the attached image. I'm using the default theme. Does anyone else have this problem? I have tried different themes and different remote desktop color depths and don't see any change. The displayed web pages in Firefox look fine, and other programs and web browsers don't show this problem.
