Passwords are set up between you and the provider of your email account. Ask your provider how to reset them. Email providers' websites normally offer a means to change or reset passwords. Since you'll need a password to get into that site, you may be able to answer security questions to be allowed in. Otherwise a phone call may be necessary.

Passwords are stored in Thunderbird, but if they are not working the stored ones won't be useful to you. They can be seen (and removed) here:

I should have said that I use Thunderbird as my email client and I have two email addresses with which I login to on TB. These are the passwords that I have forgotten.

If you can't remember your password, and you have a phone number or alternate email address associated with your account, load the Gmail page and click the "Need help?" link underneath the login box.Select "I don't know my password". Click "I don't know" or enter your last known password. Entering your last known password can help the recovery process, but isn't required to retrieve your account. Then get a verification code via a text message on your phone that will help you to recover your account.

As stated about, your email password is between you and your email provider. You need to work with them to reset forgotten email passwords.

As I have said, I use TB as my email client but was having lots of problems and receiving up to 100 copies of emails! I thought I would try gmail and as you can see, I am now set up to receive my emails through gmail but need to access TB to hopefully transfer/export all my saved/ archived emails/folders etc to my gmail account. My email provider is talktalk. I am able to access both my email accounts through talktalk but prefered to use TB. When I set up TB I had to set up passwords for each account. These are the passwords that I have forgotten and need, to be able to access TB and hopefully migrate to gmail. I hope this makes sense.

Many thanks for your efforts of help,

You keep asking the same question and you'll keep getting the same answer.

Specifically, if your email accounts are provided by TalkTalk, you must work with TalkTalk to reset your passwords.

No-one working for or on behalf of Thunderbird knows your passwords.

When you setup an account in Thunderbird it asks for your EMAIL password. The only actual password in Thunderbird is the Master Password and that is optional. If you can use you email password and username to log in at your providers webmail site then you have not forgotten your password. Try clearing the saved passwords in Thunderbird and see if that works.https://kb.wisc.edu/page.php?id=19006 If you still get a password error then your server settings are wrong or your antivirus is causing issues. My guess would bet the AV since that can cause repeated messages like you mentioned.

I don't understand why people keep pushing advice for Gmail accounts. The OP has clearly indicated that the provider in question is talktalk.

If you can access your accounts via a web browser then you apparently do know your passwords, or your browser knows them on your behalf. So maybe you need to find out where your browser stores passwords.
