when I try to download a file, from a web link, with firefox, I see a flashing of the icons on the desktop wallpaper and then firefox hangs until I click on the application windows and appears the "not responding" message on the upper blue bar . The only thing left is to close the application by clicking on the x or by ctrl-alt-del and terminating. Same thing happens if clicking on "menù file --> open file" or it trying to Open file from the "Import and backup" button of the bookmarks library window. In addition, Firefox hangs also when clicking on the Menù "Options" tab.

A very similar thing happens with thunderbird when I try to attach files to new messages that I am composing: desktop flashing and software hangs and I have to terminate it. If i open preferences to browse the

I have tried many solutions for Firefox and for Thunderbird, including safe mode, OS safe mode, Refreshing, uninstalling both of them and reinstalling after deleting every profile folder to be sure to reinstall from schratch. I tried portable versions, uninstalled antivirus (at the moment I am running no antivirus at all ! ), updated video card NVidia quadro NVS440 drivers.

I posted a similar question about thunderbird on this forum here but I am getting convinced that the problem is about how mozilla products interact with explorer file dialog window since I essentially get the same problem when trying to work with files.

I saw a similar question here exept for the fact that I have thunderbird out of order too.

So far I couldn't figure out how to solve all this. Hope someone can help me because I have been using firefox and mozilla for more than 10 years now and would like to continue.

Thanks in advance. Bye

As to Firefox, try this;

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

While still in Safe Mode,

Type about:support in the address bar and press Enter. Under the main banner, press the button; Copy Text To Clipboard.. Then in the reply box at the bottom of this page, do a right click in the box and select Paste. This will show us your system details. No Personal Information Is Collected.
