Thunderbird not working
as of about 12:15 today my thunderbird email stopped working... my internet connection is fine and I am able to do all the other things on my system apart from opening my Thunderbird, either from the desk shortcut or by going to all programmes and trying that as well. Nothing... I do have up to date norton and I have run a full scan, nothing showing up. Can you assist please. Bear in mind that I am no wiz-kid at technical jargon.

It is possible that you have just updated Thunderbird, it is likely that your anti-virus product is blocking Thunderbird. Close Thunderbird and check the AV/firewall product settings.
I also use Norton, just updated and all is ok this time. On occasions (but rarely), I have had to access anti-virus/firewall product and reset to 'Allow' Thunderbird. For some unknown reason it did not seem to realise that Thunderbird update is still Thunderbird. Once, I had to set to block, ok it and then reset to 'Allow. to get it to work. Then restart Thunderbird.
