Firefox is updating without permission.

On the issue of firefox updating itself, I came across a thread from last year. This is a link to it ---> https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1008733

In that thread, someone wrote the following :-

"'''''I think i finaly found the reason for this behavior.

When i checked the "about firefox" today i found a sentence saying something like "another instance is keeping firefox from being updated" and i started to google. Another profile was supposed to be the reason for this so i started firefox.exe -p and checked the other two profiles listed there.

One profile belongs to Kaspersky Safe Browser and in this profile automatic updates were activated. Disabled these settings and now only time will tell if firefox will update again but i have a good feeling it wont happen anymore :) '''''

I want to ask you what you meant by that. Because I don't understand anything of it. Can you please explain that to me in very simple English. And show me step by step how to disable that Kaspersky thingy? Please?

The reason why I don't want an updated firefox is that I have an old laptop with an AMD Mobile processor and the videos in the new firefox do not run properly. It's just horrible. And I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 installed.

PLEASE HELP ME OUT !!

The thread you cited and your mention here are the only two times that I have heard of any security program creating a "SafeBrowser" named Profile. Best to ask about that with Kaspersky support as to how to disable their setting for "SafeBrowser" to make sure it isn't opening that specific Profile without you knowing that Kaspersky is doing so.

Overall, the setting to disable the automatic update check and download for Firefox is a per Profile setting. If / when Kaspersky creates an additional Profile the user has to be aware of that feature provided by Kaspersky and turn off automatic updates in that Profile, too. If that isn't done Firefox will look for an update and if an update is found Firefox may install it with out any notice. That "SafeBrowser" Profile would never cause Firefox to be updated unless Kaspersky was using it for something related to their security application - the Profile has to be running for an update check and download to occur. All it takes is for the Profile to be open for as little as a few minutes, and Firefox could be updated without notice.

"Permission" is implied being that Firefox is made to update itself automatically as the norm, as it is with the other web browsers out there. You can say 'thank you' to Mozilla for providing the option to disable the automatic updates for Firefox, but when you do that you are assuming 'liability' for what happens with automatic updates being turned off.

In conclusion, if that laptop came with Windows7 it would be in your best interests in looking for updated graphics drivers so that you can eun the latest version of Firefox. But if that laptop is older and came with Vista or WinXP, chances of finding compatible graphics drivers is very low. Time to be looking for a new laptop that is more compatible with the 'current state of art' being used today on the internet - more complete HTML5 compatibility so you can leave Plugin based audio-video behind.
