No longer able to download new mail into the Intray. Suspect the Intray file is corrupted. Can I reset this file?
This is the error message:
'Unable to write the email to the mailbox. Make sure the file system allows you write privileges, and you have enough disc space to copy the mailbox.'
Another user on this laptop (ie my wife) does not have this issue.
If I open the Intray file with Notepad I can see message content deleted long ago. I always keep my Intray very small - why is the size over 10MB?
Thanks again for your help. I had to boot in Safe mode to delete the file. Now I can read (download) my incoming mail from the server. Steve.Read this answer in context 👍 0

Try to rebuild the index file of the troubled folder. Right-click the folder - Properties - Repair Folder
why is the size over 10MB?
Most likely because you do not compact folders. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Compacting_folders
It's recommended to let Thunderbird automatically compact folders.
Thank you for the suggestions. I tried both. The index file is now size 0KB, but the Intray file itself is still 10,066 KB and date/time stamped yesterday (ie not today.) What would happen if I just delete the Intray file - will I get a new (empty) one created for me automatically?
Do you still expect to see any messages in Inbox? If you delete Inbox, and assuming you still want to attempt to recover any messages from it, they'd be gone. If there's nothing to be recovered, close Thunderbird. Then delete the file Inbox. Restart Thunderbird.
