Hi, I've used firefox for a very, very long time, and I've always liked what is now called Awesome bar function, where typing in the browser bar showed you auto-complete functions from the bookmarks. Now, recently it started showing the first option as "search q on google" or whatever, but that was fine. But now it's starting to display ads to websites I've never been on before. For instance, if I type g to go to my first bookmark which is my google drive, I have "Visit gameskinny.com" instead, a website I've never been on before.

I am seriously going to switch over to google chrome if you guys start putting ads in firefox.

I've run CCleaner, Spybot S&D and Malware byte to be sure it wasn't adware.

Chosen solution

You can set browser.urlbar.unifiedcomplete to false to remove the Visit page suggestion from the location bar drop down list.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
