After fresh installation of 44 Firefox runs exactly once. After that in hangs using 4.97MB. Does run in safe mode.

After a fresh installation of FF44 on Windows 7 64. Firefox runs once, generally because the installer starts it. Once you have closed that window - that's it. It won't start again. Mostly it starts and hangs using 4.97MB. Very occasionally I get a crash and the usual Windows "failed to start" dialog pops-up.

I can run it in safe mode - that is fine. I don't think I have anything in my profile although I do have plugins that I just can't shift. Although I have disabled all of them - not that it did any good.

I found a guy on https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/ who seems to have a similar issue although 43 worked fine for me. https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/42w3re/ever_since_firefox_43_freezes_on_launch_after/

It could be the work of one of your add-ons. Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac=<Command>)<Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Disable a few add-ons, then Restart Firefox.

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All of them.

If the problem continues, disable some more (restarting FF). Continue until the problem is gone. After, you know what group is causing the issue. Re-enable the last group ONE AT A TIME (restarting FF) until the problem returns.

Once you think you found the problem, disable that and re-enable all the others, then restart again. Let us know who the suspect is detective.

I have no addons. It is a completely blank installation. I do have plugins installed such a Java, VLC, Office, NVidia and codecs.

I can turn off most of them with plugin.scan.plid.all but because a new installation or reset causes that flag to be reset I do wonder if some damage is already done before I get a chance to turn it back off again

Hi, your System Details are showing Pale Moon 26.0 although you say that you've installed Firefox 44 ...?

Well, after I've installed Firefox, once I've closed the window, it never starts again. I'm posting from Pale Moon.

I can run FF in SafeMode

With latest nVidia drivers I got it working. Early days regarding reliability but I can run it out of safe mode and HW Acceleration is on.

It is kinda weird because this isn't a GFX driver crash or a system hang. And HW Acceleration made no difference. So it doesn't look like a driver problem as such.

On the other hand plugin.scan.plid.all=false didn't fix it on its own nor setting all plugins to disabled.

So (assuming that the nVidia software update did fix it) what is FF doing with nVidia software that isn't GFX but isn't plugin related either? Unless it is touching the plugins somehow even though they are disabled?

Spoke too soon. It hasn't fixed it. The problem isn't what I though it was. This is the problem...

FF 44 can be started from ClassicShell menu option or from a DOS BOX by typing in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"

It crashes when started from normal Windows shortcuts or by clicking on the exe directly.

I think this is why the installer could run it but then I couldn't restart it from the icon the installer put on my desktop.
