Working with Windows 10 (current build at 2016-01-15) I usually have a number of apps running and pinned to the taskbar. In the last week or so Firefox will not release the screen to another app which is irritating. I have to minimise Firefox in order to work in another app. Any help to fix this bug would be most welcome.

Do you use Firefox in full-screen mode? Have you tried not full screen?

Not using full screen does not help. I just see the other app appearing and disappearing as it should but behind Firefox which refuses to budge.

You may have a corrupt xulstore.json file.

Type about:support in the address bar and press enter.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To it’s right, press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the xulstore.json file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.

Windows updated over the weekend and now all seems well so it seems that it was a Windows issue and not a Firefox one.

Thank you all for your suggestions, though.

Was Firefox in Full Screen mode or maximized?

more options

In Full Screen mode the task bar is hidden so the problem cannot apply. It was (is) maximised.

I have also been getting some BSOD reboots telling me to look up BAD POOL HEADER error though the results are not at all enlightening.
