The crash reports are a shutdown hang where Firefox takes too long to close down and a crash is forced.

  • Firefox 43.0.1 Crash Report [@ shutdownhang | RtlIsThreadWithinLoaderCallout | PR_Lock | mozilla::places::History::Shutdown ]

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks, history) in the Firefox profile folder.

If the Places Maintenance extension can't repair the places.sqlite database then remove all places.sqlite file(s) in the Firefox profile folder to make Firefox rebuild the places.sqlite database from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

You can check for issues caused by plugins and set plugins to "Ask to Activate" on the "Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins" page.

  • plugins are not affected by Firefox Safe Mode

Use one of these to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

  • "3-bar" menu button > Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File > Exit
  • Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File > Quit

Signature shutdownhang

IPSEng32.dll = Symantec Intrusion Detection

From what I have been reading from other posts on this forum, the issue may be caused by the clear history settings. It was suppose to have been fixed in v30.

Type about:preferences#privacy<enter> in the address bar.

The button next to History, select Use Custom Settings.

At the bottom of the page, turn on Clear History When Firefox Closes. At the far right, press the Settings button. Turn on ONLY Cache and Form And Search History leaving the others off.

That didn't do it. I also tried turning off Firefox cleanup in Norton Internet Security and that didn't do it either.

The latest crash report: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/bp-3f52ee03-e407-47e7-bcf3-51cd12160106

The ISPSEng32.dll is in two seemingly identical (though labeled with two different dates) folders in the IPSDefs folder under the Norton Data-Definitions folders. The other 10 folders within the Definitions folder only have one date labeled folder. Can I try just getting rid of the older folder that ISPSEng32.dll is in, or will that just screw up N.I.S.? thanks again

I thought after running Places Maintenance that it might be fixed, I was able to close Firefox 3 times in a row without hanging/crashing but then it came back. I deleted the places.sqlite files from the current profiles folder and have closed it down a couple of times with out the hang/crash so maybe that will work? I haven't had the Norton Identity Safe enabled. thanks

A couple of days later it looks like deleting the places.sqlite files solved the issue. No hangups or crashes since then. thanks
