How do I see my messages from a listserv

I can't find a configuration option for this.

When I send a message to a list, I see all the replies but I don't see my original message. It is present on the server but Thunderbird won't fetch it for love or money. This makes it difficult to keep things organized in a lengthy thread since I may not always remember exactly what I said that is being referred to.
