Firefox is using too much memory, tried resetting and I am currently sharing telemetry. How long before I find out what to do?

Tried to find out what version of FireFox I am using but couldn't, it must be up-to-date however, my security system had me re-install Firefox about two weeks ago. Anyway, running Vista Firefox us using too much memory, freezes my system, checked Mozilla and ran a reset worked for a very short time and had to keep running it. I am currently sharing telemetry, but haven't heard anything back from that! Should I just delete Firefox and run Chrome? I wanted more security, which I was told Firefox has, but I am getting very frustrated ;)
