Getting constant crashes, error signature: 41.0.0.5738 mod name: mozglue.dll

Posted

I have had this plug-in container problem for several months causing the browser to hang especially when I have several tabs open and crash when I use task manager to fix; for example on 8.26.15, the error signature was 40.0.3.5716; samd mod name: mozglue.dll

and last April 13, 2015, it was called plug-in container 37.0.1.5570, mod name (different this time) called: mozalloc.dll

Below is a possible fix I found but I'm scared to try to use it involving opening file browser ( what is that) and find program files (I know that is in C file) and replace anything named firefox to .old (is that dot old). then it says Now run the full installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done. what is the full installer; you have to re-install Firefox.

What about going back to a prior version of Firefox; how do I easily do that?

I have constantly updated carefully every add-on to latest version appropriate for my computer which is old, using windows xp professional. I'm also afraid to use tune-up, that I would lose all the add-ons, extensions not allowing the browser to work properly.

I think that Firefox updates are an overreach for older computers with windows xp that can better function on an older version of Firefox. I need an expert to help me; perhaps tomorrow.

Possible fix below I found - I didn't work for this guy:

mozglue.dll = Firefox = Mozilla Foundation

Download Firefox Full Version For All languages And Systems {web link} Save the file. Then;

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

• Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory.

Look for, and rename any Mozilla or Firefox folders by adding .old to them.

Now run the full installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done.

The instruction at the end was copied from my posts. It is used to replace the Mozilla folders if something was corrupt.

What happen when you tried it?

Some of your crash reports weren’t sent to the Mozilla Servers.

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers/letters, click it and select Submit.

Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box below and paste them in.

Here are the crash reports you requested. I disabled protected mode in flash plugin last night -hoping it would work; it didn't. I haven't found disable hardware acceleration in the flash plugin; will look again. Will check graphic card updates.

I didn't remove old folders by adding .old to them as I'm afraid I will mess something up - I can try. What I didn't understand was after I change the file names assuming I can find them - the directions said Now run the full installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done. What is the full installer; didn't understand.

Hope you can help. I didn't do the retune yet, which use to be called re-set; also fearful it will be worse or I will lose something important. I think the retune keeps the plug-ins as I have many which are all suppose to be necessary; but it doesn't save the extensions. I suppose I can copy those and re-load them individually as I have only a few. Please help. I will work on some of your other suggestions now like graphic card update, it's an old card but replacement to what I originally had in this very old computer.

Some of your crash reports weren’t sent to the Mozilla Servers.

Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box below and paste them in.

The reason I gave you the instruction above was to replace your current Firefox with a new version. This is in case something in the Mozilla folders was damaged. Please follow the instructions I posted.

Firefox comes in two or more folders on all computers. They are;

Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And one folder in the profile of each user on the computer.

If you remove the Firefox folder, the user folders would not be effected.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

If you keep having problems then create a new profile.

Hi

I'm sorry, I didn't property send you my crash reports. See if this is better:

Now, I don't fully understand the file removal/replacement below; perhaps this is a condensed version

Download Firefox Full Version For All languages And Systems {web link} Save the file. Then;

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Mac: Open the "Applications" folder.

Look for, and rename any Mozilla or Firefox folders by adding .old to them. Now run the full installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done.

Is there any chance you can call me and take me through this; I am lost. I will have to hire a tech and they may not be able to fix this firefox mess I have.

I will have to hire a tech and they may not be able to fix this firefox mess I have. bp-8333a82e-bee3-49f5-bafa-37e2d2150928 9/28/2015 3:19 PM bp-d3687534-a675-4b80-b7cf-695eb2150928 9/28/2015 3:17 PM bp-66b369ff-ea00-49e8-bb3c-0d1912150928 9/28/2015 1:38 PM bp-66ee24a7-8985-48a8-94cd-6fee42150928 9/25/2015 10:08 PM bp-76c6f872-0333-4d33-bf87-d97762150928 9/25/2015 10:08 PM bp-038adb19-1192-4b62-8908-346522150928 9/25/2015 10:08 PM bp-30ac2b9d-1157-4b7c-88a0-10ce62150928 9/25/2015 10:08 PM bp-37981901-64ff-4a5b-95aa-5dccd2150928 9/25/2015 10:08 PM bp-dcc8db9d-8866-402e-9b20-abe3f2150928 9/25/2015 10:08 PM bp-f3ea6c34-7c31-4e3b-a889-98b0c2150928 9/25/2015 10:07 PM bp-8d7d337b-3a68-47be-b22d-510102150928 9/25/2015 10:07 PM bp-600df5ac-40e1-4d43-b2fe-0e2f82150928 9/25/2015 10:07 PM bp-15bf26bf-8d5b-4289-b657-ba08a2150928 9/25/2015 10:07 PM bp-21e09c39-c27a-42dd-9b2b-2d6ea2150928 9/25/2015 10:07 PM bp-2db33bbc-c541-45b2-bf86-6bd422150928 9/25/2015 10:07 PM bp-1669ae9b-7e49-4002-a943-428752150928 9/25/2015 10:07 PM

That looks like problems with the Shockwave Flash plugin.

You can check for problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions and try this:

Sadly I have latest flash player 19.0.0.185; however, I can't figure out how to open it in my pc, I don't have the icon as there should be a setting in there in hardware acceleration. firefox add-on's shows latest version , but there is no setting for hardware acceleration; only protect mode and I don't know how to open the dam thing. I have adobe reader but that is different. That may not work anyway (the acceleration setting).

hardware acceleration in Firefox was not checked.

I have latest graphic driver although control panel doesn't say that - that's a problem with windows xp, often the control panel doesn't label the latest version, but I checked with nvidia and it says I have latest driver.

I disabled protect mode, that didn't work and the notes say it

Obviously, something is corrupt but it's also an old pc with an outdated operating system. Nevertheless, this should happen and it's been happening, the crashes for months.

I want to try your file idea, but don't fully understand it: I find firefox folder and change name to .old (dot old). then run full installer - I assume that is the full new version of Firefox? that will be separate from the files from the current installer. I wish you call call me if I give you my number.

This has made my life miserable for a while to the point, I don't want another Microsoft product and that is windows 10; I am waiting to see the new iMac's coming out soon with super high resolution on the 21.5" screen. I will learn Mac, much fewer problems. In mac I can run firefox or safari.

p.s. there is also a potential problem with Firefox especially since 40 came out; I see tons of plugin container errors and it's sickening.

there also could be an issue with my firewall which is complex as I use comodo; it has firewall, anti-virus and sandbox; I don't know if there is something in the firewall that needs to be set to handle the plug-in container issue.

I don't know what I'm talking about but I do know that some outside firewall's and anti-virus programs greatly affect some computer programs; I had that in the past and had to switch from Aviara to comodo.

I will call Comodo tomorrow and see if there know of any Firefox crash problems.

how do I know if firewall is not blocking plugin-container. [72] [73]

thanks but This was not my question, I disabled the protected mode yesterday but it didn't work; I'm talking about disabling the hardware accelerator in flash plugin. It is not listed as an option, only protected mode. However, on the adobe flash web site, it does list a box for hardware accelerator, but I can't find it as I can't open adobe flash player except in firefox add-ons.

so far nothing has worked to stop the plugin-container crashes; today it's been ok but I don't have many tabs open; that seems to be a trigger.

Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See this article for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).

To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:

  1. Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
  2. Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
  3. Click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
  4. Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel.

    fpSettings1.PNG
  5. Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
  6. Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
  7. Restart Firefox.

This Flash Player Help - Display Settings page has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.

I wish you call call me if I give you my number.

This is frowned on. But if you want, press my user name on the left. Send a personal message, and the best time to call eastern standard.

there also could be an issue with my firewall

Open the firewall program. Remove ALL rules for Everything. Check the settings and find the option that alerts you.

another option as I'm hesitant about re-loading entire Firefox trying to save my files, bookmarks

Firefox comes in two or more folders on all computers. They are;

Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And one folder in the profile of each user on the computer.

If you remove the Firefox folder, the user folders would not be effected.

try an older flashplayer, but would have no idea which one, can you check the error reports as to when they started?

I think that Adobe.com may have 18 still, but I don't know how to get it.

It appears that shockwave flash is my major problem; I have the latest version of flash. What I've done now is set it to not activate unless I allow it per individual web sites.

It was fine for a while until I allowed flash to run on Salon.com; it crashed and there is a new crash report but it doesn't show up yet so I can't give it to you.

What I didn't do as it scares me is re-load entire Firefox from the beginning; then adding back everything; or I can true to tune-up. I'm simply afraid to do this without supervision. I will get back to solving this issue perhaps tomorrow. It appears that Firefox has a huge problem with shockwave flash; a simple solution would be to replace shockwave flash with alternative software if that even exists. Firefox should fix this problem once and for all; it's all over their support issues. all of this along with my hatred for microsoft leaves me in one direction - get a Mac, no more pc's. I am waiting for the new iMac's but timing it terrible due to the stock market huge correction.

At some point, I will also do an entire re-set, or do so when I get a new computer when that happens automatically as I will just be moving mike bookmarks. I don't know if you can move over all firefox add-ons from an old to new computer and if so if it's wise to do so. Chances are there is an error in my Firefox code somewhere, not the add-ons which I have reloaded many times.
