Firefox on Google Play is the Release while the Beta mention refers to the Beta channel builds. There is also Aurora (aka developer edition) and Nightly.

Release < Beta < Aurora < Nightly

A new version is started on Nightly and is moved/merged to next channel when a version is Released.

Currently it is 41.0b# (41.0b8) version builds being worked on Beta channel before 41.0 is on Release.

Thank you, I will try the reinstall but won't I lose my bookmarks if I Uninstall the Firefox I have first, before reinstalling?

Hi again, Michael. It didn't work. It still just goes to black and I end up on my icons page. The stock browser stays open all the time--I don't know if that could contribute to this problem or not. It's the one I can just quickly get into and carry on if FF goes buggy, so I leave it that way, but I will get out of it and see if that helps. If it doesn't, perhaps you have another suggestion. Thanks again, E

Sorry to bother you again? I got out of Google as much as possible, including deleting cookies and cache on everything Google that I had. At first, last night, I thought it was going to work--FF stayed open and my keyboard even worked well for a change, but today it is doing the same thing, open for a limited amount of time then black and back to my main (icons) page. Do you have any more suggestions? I am completely bumfuzzled by its actions. Thank you again for your help, E
