Thanks both, but my question was about Firefox for *Android* and on my ASUS Tablet only a limited number of webpages are displayed on the 'History' tab. I can find no way of delving further back. It seems to work by number of pages visited, not by date but I cannot find this documented anywhere. For the moment I don't want to sync the tablet with my desktop pc.

Most definitely looking at History. The tablet has been used for a couple of years, mainly when away from home, for checking email, weather reports and travel information etc and is not synched with any other device. I have never cleared the History yet it only shows the last 90 or so pages visited. With a touch screen it is difficult to count without accidentally launching one of the pages on the list, so I have given up trying to do a totally accurate count !

Thanks for your interest mmhyamin, but it is probably not of great importance. I was simply puzzled as to why History retention on Android is so limited.
