How to remove Properties showing personal info in an image that I took or downloaded?

Group: Recent version of Firefox with Vista. I do not know if this is a Firefox problem.

When I look at the Properties of a picture I have posted, I get a lot of items consisting of camera settings, etc. and ending with a group of items under the sub-heading of Files.

When I look at the Properties of a picture posted by anyone else, I always see a short list of items often beginning with “Save Page As” and always ending with “Inspect Element”. That form of Properties appears to be universal.

In the Files sub-section of Properties of my pics is some personal info that I would rather not be shown. It shows the path and the owner’s name. While it shows a fake name, I am still concerned about security, given the huge amount of hacking going on.

I have removed the entire camera setting info, but cannot remove the personal info. I tried to change my Profile but cannot access it. The tutorial says how but all I get is a ‘not found” reply. I have searched on the “C” drive for Profile Manager no avail. I have tried downloading to an external hard drive but it still has the path name in the Properties.

I tried Internet Explorer to find images, but while there was no camera info in the Properties, it still had the path description.

I am opening images with Windows Photo Gallery because it allows a slide show that I know how to use.

How do I change the lengthy Properties display in my pictures to the much more limited and common one ending in “Inspect Element” and to not have the path name or owner name displayed?

Thanks!

Mr. Mansurev: Thank you for the response. However it does not address my problem. I understand the need and uses of the camera info as you described them. The Properties associated with an image that I have downloaded or have taken and stored contain six subsections. The first five are, Description, Origin, Image, Camera, and Advanced photo. Those are not a concern of mine and my Vista with Firefox allows me to remove that info if I want and they masy give me some useful info.

But it is the last sub-section, titled "File" that contains the personal info that I want to remove from an image that I post somewhere. The personal info is found in the path name, and in the computer Owner.

I have never seen the Properties described above in any viewed image from any source. The viewed image, before downloading, has only a short list in the Properties, and it always ends with the "Inspect Element" heading.

I do not understand why I seem to be the only person in the world who has the extensive list that I quoted first. Pictures I took ten years ago with a different camera and downloaded to a different computer have the same unwanted Properties.

Remember that I am not talking about the five EXIF sub-sections with camera info and settings, and I am only concerned with the File sub-section which is last.

If you could send me a private e-mail address, I could send a pic or two with the unwanted Properties. I have no other means of sending a pic to someone else who is knowledgeable about the EXIF info and the File sub-section following that info.

Thanks!

Do not confuse the right-click context menu that you see if you right-click an image on a web page with the information that Windows Explorer shows in the properties of a file. The latter is only accessible to you and not to other people on internet unless you would copy this image directly to the internet and you haven't removed this EXIF data.

You can use this extension to see EXIF data that is attached to images that you see on a web page.

I never copy an image directly to the internet, and do not see any reason to do so. It always goes to a Download folder in my C drive.

I am confused about the EXIF data. Yes, I can click on a button somewhere and remove all the camera info. The image specifications such as size, etc., remain when I look at the Properties of a downloaded image. That is not a concern, and the EXIF info is not either, except I do not want to be identified as the "author".

My concern is the FILE sub-section which contains two instances of my name (fake anyway). Is that subsection part of the EXIF information? How do I remove it? How do I know if I download an image to a folder, then post it later to another site, will it contain that File sub-section that I do not want to share?

Same question about an image that I originate.

Then if I choose the available option in a drop down box of removing all the personal data will that apply to all images on my computer?

Part of what troubles me is that the option says it will remove "all personal information" but it removes the camera info (exif) instead. And it apparently does not remove the actual personal info in the FILE sub-section.

Every image that I click on before downloading has a very short list of Properties, and it always ends with "Inspect element". When I download it and put it in a folder it then takes on the long list of Properties with the personal info in a File Sub-section at the end.

Are you telling me that my computer adds those unwanted Properties, but if I post it somewhere and a person right clicks on it they will not see the long list of the EXIF data and the File sub-section?

What if I click on an image at some site, and then mail it to another person, they will see the EXIF info plus the unwanted File sub-section?

How can I guarantee that ANY image, regardless of who took it or where I downloaded it from, or any other source will not contain the unwanted File sub-section?

Sorry for being so unfamiliar with this stuff, but there is no other source of info that I can find or understand. And I have no way of testing all my questions.
