Fragment identifiers on pages or in URL:s, /#something, is not working on my recently installed Firefox 38.0 for Mac OS X 10.7 Very annoying, works with Safari. Is this normal and expected or have I changed some preference without knowing it?

Does this problem affect old-fashioned static IDs such as

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/privacy/#what-else-should-you-know

or only "modern" pages where the fragment is input to a script that modifies the page, for example, displaying a different tab? In that case, it would be useful to get some example URLs where it isn't working.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

I discovered the problem after updating Firefox and the first time was on http://www.jaktia.se/butiker/ a Swedish site for hunting stores where "butiker" means thier different stores in Sweden. If you click on one of their names you are supposed to arrive at that stores site and it works fine in Safari. Not in Firefox 38, not on my Mac OS X 10.7 machine and not on my Max OS X 10.10 machine. Is there some esoteric HTML code that Firefox doesn't swallow? The page source is too complex for me.

You can use the Web Console or Browser Console (see Developer menu) to see the error message, but the way scripts are compressed these days, it's nearly impossible to decode the problem. Actually, I get the same problem in Google Chrome which has a better error explanation.

Attached screen shots:

(1) Link in that page (2) Results of clicking (scrolls to self, details do not show) (3) Error in console (Firefox) (4) Error in console (Chrome) (5) Intended display, which appears after a reload of the page

Apparently the site's script needs to be repaired. I'm not sure why Safari is different.

I'm impressed! Thanks for the effort. I'll inform the site of their mistakes.
