For about 2 months now I keep on getting a yellow bar at the bottom of my browser saying that sync failed to connect or something and I must check my preferences. This is across several browsers and operating systems. This used to work perfectly but now every time I start a Firefox browser I get this yellow bar at the bottom of the window.

I have changed passwords and usernames. This has not helped. My browsers are all up to date. I only have Flash player and DownThemAll as addons. I have reinstalled those as well.

I have also looked for posts for users having similar problems and then latest sync issue post is from 2014.

Chosen solution

Hello and thanx for the responses.

My network is not the problem because as I have said before this is occurring on different machines on different OS' in different locations and thus on different networks.

I work in IT and my internet especially at home is very important to me and thus unless there is a cable break somewhere, it is always in tip top condition.

Having said that, 2 days after I posted my error logs, this issue has magically resolved itself. I have done nothing or changed anything.

So ja.

HI dracosveen, Since you are experiencing the unknown sync error, let's take a look at some of the logs to see if there is an error message or a corruption that we can try to fix.

  • How do I turn on sync logs:
  1. Open about:config and turn on: services.sync.log.appender.file.logOnSuccess and services.sync.log.logger.engine.bookmarks
  2. Restart Firefox and look at: about:sync-log
  3. Logs and error messages will be located here

Please also use pastebin.mozilla.org for sharring any errors that relate to this issue.

Thank you.

I assume this is what you want. it is the latest "big" error file there is

https://pastebin.mozilla.org/?dl=8837730

This is the latest error

https://pastebin.mozilla.org/?dl=8837734

and then there is a success after that

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync (temporarily) while performing maintenance/repair efforts to the places.sqlite database.

There is also a network error from the second pastebin: * "435126265809 Sync.BrowserIDManager DEBUG _ensureValidToken already has one

  • 1435126266869 Sync.Status DEBUG Status.sync: success.sync => error.login.reason.network
  • 1435126266869 Sync.Status DEBUG Status.service: success.status_ok => error.sync.failed"

Cor-el is right about the corrupt history file: * "1435179292573 Sync.Engine.History DEBUG Records that failed to apply: ssxxxxxxxxxb" For any future network errors, please make sure that https://accounts.firefox.com can make outgoing and incoming connections in any firewalls/antiviruses that you may have on the computer that has this error. (second pastebin source)

Also take note to change the password to Lastpass after the security warning last week. :-)

Ya the sync client will retry after a failed debug. If you are ever in a jam it does not resolve itself that add on that corel recommended is pretty reliable. I will mark your response as the solution.
