Why does Firefox for Android suck so much wind?

Okay, I know I have an old version (2.6.35.7...), but really, if the native Android browser was any better I would not even waste time with Firefox. On a good day it is extremely slow and crashes often. On a bad day it takes down the entire OS.

Is there any hope? I _really_ like the features.....

Just a guess, but, Firefox gets slow and instable when it lacks memory.

If you can make sure to have both, enough free RAM and enough free internal storage, you'll see Firefox running like a charm. Try a memory manager for the RAM, and a cleaner for the internal storage.

I have used JRummy's memory manager for the RAM, and Cheetah's Clean Master for the internal storage, and, after reboot, can use Firefox, now.

But, it would be nice to have an indication/error message, not just return to home page.

Hello,

Well if you want privacy then you should definitely keep browsing with Firefox instead any other browser. Now, in case of your problem, first you have to upgrade your browser to make it more comfortable. Though, many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. The Firefox cache temporarily stores images, scripts, and other parts of websites while you are browsing.
Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies, do the following:

  1. Tap the menu icon located at the top right corner. This is the icon with 3 bars. On older Android devices you'll have to press the hardware menu key and then tap More.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. After that, you will be taken to the settings screen. In the settings screen, look under the section Privacy & Security and select Clear private data.
  4. You will then be taken to a list of what can be cleared. Select the following 2 for deletion:
    • Cookies & active logins
    • Cache
  5. After those have been selected, tap the Clear data button to actually clear the cache and cookies.

Did this help you with your problems? Please let us know!

In your Android version, you should be able to move some apps to SD card, freeing internal storage. For the free space of RAM, try to kill some apps (with a task killer).
