OK ... Windows 7 installed an update earlier today (KB2952664) which played havoc with the system (reset startup settings etc in WIndows) then when I fired up Firefox all of my settings had gone including Bookmarks and add ons etc. When I managed to startup Firefox and then tried to restore the bookmarks from the .json file or from the HTML file Firefox hangs and I get a warning/message about the script being busy and do I want to wait ???? And there it sits, doing apparently nothing with the 'busy' mouse pointer scrolling away ... so after an hour I gave up and despite rebooting etc etc (even created a new profile) the darn thing just will not restore the bookmarks !!! Any assistance would be most helpful ... pleasssssssssssssssssssssssssssssse Thanks

Try to delete all places.sqlite files and see if that allows to restore a JSON backup. Try to restore and older backup if the most recent isn't working.

How many bookmarks are in the JSON backup?

See the item count part of the file name.

  • bookmarks-YYYY-MM-DD_<item count>_<hash>.json
