The address bar is broken. Pressing enter or clicking then enter button after typing a website url does nothing.

Observed with Firefox version 38.0.1 on OpenSuSE 13.2.

Searching on google shows that this is a common problem going back a few years. Tried all of the recommended solutions, none helped. Typing a webpage url and pressing enter to go to a web site seems like a pretty basic function. Hard to believe such a a bug is still there. Have no more time to spend on this, but thought you should know about it. Sadly switched to Chrome.

Try to open a new window to see if the location/address bar works in that window.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
