Currently experiencing multiple errors in Firefox, what can I do to resolve?

more options

Salutations to the reader, I hope you are well.

Since these errors began in April and still occur [and Firefox does not have a contact email for this available], I joined to ask here hoping to receive assistance. I give my gratitude to whomever will provide solutions to end these errors.

- Beginning around April 28, recaptcha v.2 ceased working properly on this browser. The widget functions properly on Chrome and Internet Explorer, but on Firefox. I have check to verify if javascript is enabled, and that is. I do not think Adblock or Blur is the reason since I have the extensions on Chrome and the widget appears. - Images and flash games on certain sites do not appear/work properly currently. For example, the pictures on Blimpie's sweepstakes game do not display, but on Chrome they do. - The help button in the title bar does not work when I click to select. The button becomes responsive though when I enter Customize mode.

I did scan my computer for viruses and malware, but I have not discovered either. [aside from changing to run as administrator] I have not made any changes to my laptop or the browser also to add, so I am not certain what caused these problems to begin.

If recaptcha isn't working then this is either caused by an extension or by security software on your computer. If you use extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) that can block content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Flash Block, Ghostery) then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test.

Also, see if there are updates for your graphics drivers https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

Many thanks for the two replies, returning to the default theme did resolve the issue with the recaptcha (which is strange, changing the theme for the browser should not effect the widget). I am curious if Google and Firefox is aware of this.

I still have the issues with the Help button on the title bar not working when I click to use, and certain sites not displaying games or images correctly. I have checked the help topics here for images that do not display properly, but no option has resolved this yet.

I have not checked updates for that, Fred since my laptop is an Acer Extensa 4420 and have not received updates for the graphics driver in a long time.

Check for updates anyway.

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

  • Clear the Cache and
  • Remove Cookies
Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to.

Type about:preferences<Enter> in the address bar.

  • Cookies; Select Privacy. Under History, select Firefox will Use Custom Settings. Press the button on the right side called Show Cookies. Use the search bar to look for the site. Note; There may be more than one entry. Remove All of them.
  • Cache; Select Advanced > Network. Across from Cached Web Content, Press Clear Now.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?

Then restart.

I just tried both options (clearing the cookies, cache and restarting in Safe Mode), but the images on Blimpie's game site still does not display. I am not certain what is causing this. The issue with recaptcha began again (where the widget loads, but does not display any images to select) before I restart in Safe Mode, but the widget seems to be working properly now in Safe Mode.

Could either of my Extensions or Plug-ins be the reason Firefox has not functioned well? The ones below the second picture are Silverlight, Shockwave, Windows Presentation Foundation and Windows Live Gallery.

You have stated that yesterday, and I have replied there are no updates since I have checked for one numerous times. I have disabled and re-enabled the driver, but the problem remains. I have reinstalled Firefox, and the images did not display yet. I am not certain what is causing this, perhaps my laptop is the reason.

Also to add, my question about if either of the extensions could be the reason for the drastic change was not answered, so if the reader can assist me on that, please comment. The recaptcha widget and the help button that was not working have now improved since I disabled the Swagbutton plugin, but the situation with certain sites not displaying correctly occurs (as displayed in the two screenshots I will upload. One from Firefox and Chrome). I will continue check the help topics again and other forums to see if another individual is experiencing the same as me.

If I am unable to locate an answer, I will use Chrome temporary until I can.

Did you try to load the page with Firefox in Safe Mode?

Type about:preferences#content<enter> in the address bar. Across from fonts and colors, press the Advanced button. On the bottom, turn on Allow Web Sites To Choose Their Own.

I see the game site but they want a little too much information for me to investigate this issue: http://www.combocraze.com/. If you notice the missing images anywhere else, please post a link to the page.

As long as you're there, can you tell whether the page is using a plugin? In Firefox, a notification icon should appear in the address bar toward the left end. It look a bit like a Lego block and if you click it, it should indicate whether Flash, Java, or any other plugin is used in the page. To see whether the plugin is used for the problem area of the page, try right-clicking that area and checking whether you get a regular Firefox menu or a plugin menu (usually the plugin has a short menu and often mentions its name at the bottom).
