How do I open a link to another site that is enclosed in an email? Just clicking on it does not work as it did before now.

Is this an email displayed in Firefox? Assuming so...

Some mail programs/sites automatically "linkify" a complete URL but others do not. Firefox still might recognize them as valid, so you can try this:

  • Select the whole URL with the mouse and either:
    • right-click/Ctrl+click the link > Open Link in New Tab
    • drag the selected link up and and drop it on the address bar

Does that work?

In gmail I ''used'' to be able to open a link which would open in FF. Now when I attempt to open a link I get a tab which stays blank. The address bar reads something like <https://mail.google.com/_/scs/mail-static/_/js/k=gmail.main.en.so9sxCEetKI.O/m=m_i,t,it/am=PiMewvzf-4NYZ5Bd-kDF_v33u0uKnX0e_9-ZAJK9Avi_2f8D-D94H30hAQ/rt=h/d=1/t=zcms/rs=AHGWq9BbodqjplbpWGGIqvJvAm5RYDy00A> My gmail links open without a problem in Chrome. Is this a gmail thing oranFF thing? It would seem to be a FF issue which I'm finding more and more frustrating with crashes, etc.

Hi jjschwartz, unlike links that contain obvious destination URLs, I can't tell what that link was supposed to do. Was that a link someone included in a message, destined for an external site, or is that a link internal to Gmail itself?

Also, can you make sure you are not blocking some redirects using the accessibility setting to assist users with screen readers? That's here:

Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences > Advanced Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences > Advanced

On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page"

Regarding crashes, those shouldn't happen. Are you getting the Mozilla Crash Reporter dialog, or the Windows crash dialog? If you are getting the Mozilla Crash Reporter form, your Firefox may have logged some data that would help track down the cause of the problem. You can submit that data to Mozilla and share it with forum volunteers to see whether it points to the solution. Please check the last section of the support article "Firefox Crashes" for steps to get those crash IDs from the about:crashes page, and then post some of the recent ones in a new question so they aren't buried here in the discussion about Gmail.

You can start a new question at the following link. Scroll down past the suggestions to continue submitting your question: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/new/desktop/fix-problems

Every time lately, when I click a link in one of my gmail emails, instead of going directly to the destination site, a blank page opens with just the destination url displayed; saying that it's being redirected to said url...Example: Redirecting you to http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0170X17QK. How do I stop this from happening so that it'll automatically open destination site?
