Can't hide welcome message
I just installed Thunderbird for the first time. The welcome message is taking-up half the space of the message area. I can't find a way to hide it. Is it possible to hide/dismiss the welcome message? Thank you!
Chosen solution
The start page displays in the Message Pane. It will be replaced with a message when you click on a message.
If it is the message pane you are objecting to click F8 to toggle it off and on.
If it is seeing the start page when you open Thunderbird that you object to you can turn that off.
From the menu bar select Tools-Options-General and clear the check box for the Start Page.
No menu bar with Tools? Press the alt key.

Thank you for the quick reply your advice solved my problem. Eventhough IE and other apps auto-hide the menubar I had not thought about it for Thunderbird so that comment helped as well. Thanks again!
