firefox not working on windows 8

Previously using Firefox with no problems. Now when I click on the icon on the desktop, it pops up on the taskbar on the bottom of the screen and when I hover over it, the page becomes visible, but it will not expand to full page. I have tried uninstalling and installing, I have reset computer to previous date in case I accidently downloaded something corrupt but nothing is working. I cannot open it up to reset my profile. What can I do?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options) key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?
