So let me guess...Firefox Hello doesn't work on iMacs, right?!?

Posted

First of all, it's a big fat LIE that users don't need any account or to sign into anything! I don't even know how Firefox can blatantly lie about that. Users DO need an email account AND they have to sign into it in order to access "Hello." However, absolutely NOTHING happens when I try to start a conversation. Nothing. No other window, no message, no error, no nothing. So, even though Firefox is supposedly known for being Mac-friendly, I'm going to guess it is not compatible. Is that right?

hi FlowerPower1234, there are some misconceptions in your post. firefox hello works fine on macs as well. if you don't get any action when you click on start a conversation, please make sure that you haven't set up to run firefox in permanent private browsing mode ("never remember history" in the options > privacy panel) as firefox hello won't run in this mode.

in addition you don not need to sign in with any account to use firefox - you are free to do so and this provides some benefits like storing a contact's address and allowing for a direct call with other users with a firefox account. however this is optional and by no means a prerequisite to use the service.

Thank you for your reply, however, my Firefox is not set up to run in permanent private browsing mode. My history is always remembered unless I clear it myself. And YES, I did need to sign in, it wouldn't allow me to have access any other way. I could not ignore the REQUIRED log in window, and in fact it stated that logging in was "Required."

Seriously? That sounds like other so-called "helpful" comments such as, "Is the computer on?" I have quit out of Firefox and relaunched it several times with the same result. Relaunching and refreshing is exactly the same thing (I used to be a webmaster for the State of California and I probably should have mentioned that in my initial post). So, as much as I appreciate getting at least SOME feedback, your comments are completely unhelpful and imply I have no working knowledge of my computer... when clearly I do.

See:

Do you have a camera and microphone connected because if not then this might cause problems. You can switch off the camera.

Yes, I have both a camera and a microphone. When I click on what the instructions call the "Email link" (there is no Email LINK, it's part of a dropdown menu that only recently showed up), I get an error (attached) but it couldn't be more vague. "Something" went wrong, it states. Well, duh. Thanks anyway. This feature is not Mac compatible... at least not Yosemite OS compatible... and I'm tired of wasting my life on it. Going to go use the telephone on my wall in the kitchen to "chat" with my friend in Maine.

"Email Link" opens your email client and the link to the conversation is pasted into it. You must not have an email client installed or your Mac's settings are incorrect. To allow someone else to enter your conversation, click "Copy Link" and then paste that link into TextEdit, Twitter, or whatever place to share it with friends.

You're right, I don't have an email client set up and I did copy the link and I pasted into my own email @att.net. If you would have read my problem from the get-go you'd know that that isn't even the issue. To "SuperSleuther," making hateful comments isn't helpful at all. My so-called rage consisted of me using the word "duh" and telling readers I'd given up and was going to use my wall phone. I don't know what YOUR problem is, but I've reported your hate comment. I'm disabling new comments reporting to my email now. Thanks anyway to those who attempted to help. To "SuperSleuther" who needs a new User ID, bite me. How's that for rage?

Hey there, I'm sorry you are having trouble with Firefox Hello. Let's try a few things and see if we can't help you out.

First, please try creating a new testing profile. Let's see if that makes a difference. Profile Manager - Create, remove, or switch Firefox profiles Make sure you don't delete your old profile, just create a new one to test in.

As for the accounts, you don't need an account to use Hello. Having an account makes it easier and better, but you can totally use it without an account, millions of people do :)
