Hmm, these crashes all seem to be the same thing: Firefox starts working with a database, probably one of its settings databases, and boom, it dies calling a function in a Microsoft DLL. There just not enough information for me to know how to solve it, the only clue I really have is in the list of steps prior to failure, I see "nsNavHistory::RemoveAllPages()" which suggests a problem in the Places database which stores history and bookmarks.

(1) Have you shut down Windows and restarted it since this problem began? In case there's some component in memory that has become trashed.

(2) If you haven't already, could you try starting Firefox in its Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

If Firefox is NOT running: Hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Will Firefox start up?

(3) Let's try removing the history/bookmarks database and see whether that helps. This is with Firefox closed.

Copy the following and paste it into the Start menu search box (or the address bar of a Windows Explorer window) and press Enter:

%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

There you may see one or more semi-randomly-named folders. Click into the most recent. Scroll down and rename places.sqlite to places.old.

Then try to start Firefox up again. Any improvement?

You are wonderful - thank you so much for your help! I have turned my computer off a couple of times and also restarted it. I tried to open Firefox in safe mode and was unable to. Just followed your directions: (3) Let's try removing the history/bookmarks database and see whether that helps. This is with Firefox closed.

A window opened when I click on my firefox Icon and asked if I would like to open in safe mode or refresh firefox.

I was able to open in safe mode ... now what? As it did not do a normal open.

The formatting on this forum is a little messy, but it sounds as though you renamed places.sqlite and then you were able to open in Safe Mode. So far, so good.

Are your bookmarks present? Firefox should have realized that places.sqlite was missing and restored those from the last bookmark backup it made.

If all is good, you can exit Firefox and then start it up again normally. (Hopefully!)
