Why does my browser now take me to the last page I was on and exactly where I left off when I shut it down? It will not go to my selected home page when I start it up.

Do you have this problem on a desktop/laptop computer, or on your mobile device running Android?
For desktop systems, please investigate whether you have a user.js file as described in this article: How to fix preferences that won't save. Some software may create such a file and it may contain an override that instructions Firefox to restore your previous session.
Did you see anything like that?
