The two most recent reviews of that extension do mention problems.

And considering that extension was last updated June 3, 2013, it's possible that extension may need some fixin'. Unfortunately the developer didn't provide an email address or support information for that add-on. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/user/careytilden/

Thank you for your reply, but the central issue is not particular to the software package offered, but why simply Firefox itself does not provide such an obvious facility. so I am left without a solution except to move off from Firefox to more sophisticated alternatives
