How to fix -In Windows 8.1, Firefox seems to revert to desktop not Start page, when it is closed.

Windows 8 seems to be running on two systems - the desktop (which is just like windows 7), and the start page. Is there a way to integrate Firefox into the start page system? It does open it, but closes out the the desktop. (We are longtime Firefox users, and don't want to use IE, so will just work around it, but it just seems a little disjointed.)

Hi marthajones, Are you asking if Firefox can be pinned to the Windows 8 start page?

I don't know whether this is a Firefox-specific problem or a problem with "traditional" Windows apps in general. Do other programs you start from the desktop close and display the Start page the way you prefer?

I have Firefox pinned to the start page. I had an idea after I wrote this to delete the shortcut from the desktop and task bar, to see if viewing the desktop could be avoided. It did not work. I guess this is a problem with 'traditional' Windows apps. I open it from the start page, it immediately flashes up the desktop and then goes to Firefox. When I close the Firefox browser with the x, I am again sent to the desktop just like in Windows 7. Does Firefox (or other traditional apps) need to be closed at all? (Would I then need to delete history for the security issue?) Maybe if I just drag it down, (the Windows 8 gesture) I can keep it going in the background.

I don't close Firefox very often, but then, I don't share my computer with anyone. As a Windows 7 user, I can't personally test swiping the application down, but if you test that, I'll be interested to hear what happens.

Do you normally switch between running apps using the swipe-from-left gesture, or the keyboard?

Slightly delayed answer, but still learning. Well, I found that swiping Firefox down brings the start screen up. However, if I close Firefox with the X, it brings me to the desktop. I do tend to clear the history more often if I am not closing it with the X since I am concerned about the security. As to you other question, I usually switch between apps by touching the start screen symbol, and then going to it. Or, hovering my cursor in the upper left and then clicking on it. However, swiping from the left seems to work well too, if you don't have a lot of things open.
