how to place the search engine on the desk top as an icon

I am using windows 7, I would like to be able to click on the search engine ixquick https from an icon on my desk top instead of having to open a browser. I have visual problems and have trouble with the little search bar in my browser. most of the time I search and do not need to use the browser.

hello carlcarmichael, you could put a shortcut to the search site onto your desktop - this is getting described in Create a desktop shortcut to a website

Overall what you are asking about doing really isn't a Firefox support question; i.e. - searching from a desktop icon and not having Firefox open at all.

Set ixquick as your homepage in Firefox and when you want to search hit the home button on the toolbar. The search container on the ixquick page will be larger than the one in the Firefox Search Bar.

You need a web browser to do web searches; or a separate program that would use the Internet Explorer shell with the programs own user interface, to make it appear to be a separate program - on Windows OS's at least.
