Firefox does not remember history-why?

Posted

Hi guys! My firefox does not remember any history at all. Of course the privacy settings say: " remember history". Everything else (bookmarks and such work fine. I have done a "reset firefox" twice; no change. There is an article from someone with similar problems, but vital chunks of info are missing, so I can not reproduce what exactly the problem was and how it was solved. Any suggestions anyone?? Cheers Stefan ( should add: windows 7, latest firefox version...)

Chosen solution

History can be removed or not recorded several ways;

  • 1) Running Firefox in Private Mode (nothing is recorded)
  • 2) Privacy settings (Type about:preferences#privacy<Enter>
    in the address bar.)
  • 3) Many disk cleaners and anti-virus type programs can remove data from browsers. Open their settings and have them leave the browsers alone.
  • 4) Mal-ware.

You can check for problems with the <b>places.sqlite</b> database file in the Firefox profile folder. *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Bookmarks_history_and_toolbar_buttons_not_working_-_Firefox *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Bookmarks+not+saved#w_fix-the-bookmarks-file *Places Maintenance: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/places-maintenance/

Thanks for your replies. Initially I had removed the places.sqlite files but the problem remained the same. The problem was indeed caused by a "system care" program that removed bookmarks and history every time when firefox was closed down......Thanks again Stefan
